Internship description:

The tremendous progresses in polymer synthesis and precision synthesis made during the last 20-30 years have allowed for the design, synthesis, and application of new polymeric nanostructures with a wide range of properties (e.g., controlled degradation, biocompatibility, stimuli-responsiveness) owing to the control of their architecture, functionality, and reactivity. However, there has been little research in the field of boron-loaded polymers for medicinal chemistry despite its interesting and quite peculiar chemistry, such as dynamic covalent boronic ester moieties. Some gels have been reported for various medical applications, whilst several polymeric systems containing boron have been designed for a potential BNCT application.
I propose for this internship to study the influence of boron moieties on the aqueous self-assembly of polymers for future biomedical applications either as drug-loaded systems or as drug-conjugate systems.

Techniques used during the internship:

Organic synthesis
Schlenk line
Purification of chemical compounds
NMR
FTIR
UV
